Portrait of the Sleep Deprived represents what Australian society is slowly losing, or in fact, is retaining in alternative ways. We live in a society that is ever changing and we can see the proof of this through architecture and products of bygone eras.

This piece represents an area of Australian life - that of the suburb of West End, Brisbane - where the era of the past meets the era of the future through architecture and matierilistic items.
The VJ panelling of the walls, the wooden structure, the corugated iron roofing of the neighbouring dwellings, the tall mirror...all aspects of the past found in your typical asbestos-housing fibro shack.
Modernisation is found in the footy poster (Broncos), mobile phone, schoolbags with an impossible mess on the floor representing aspects of today. Uluru on the top of the wall is a humourous take on representing an era even before the house (icon of the 70's).

I chose hot colours for this piece to show the humidity and exaggerate the nature of the wood in the surroundings. Many of the modern items are green or cooler colours to make them ';pop' or stand out from the past.

Many might notice that in my prints, there is an obvious absence of people or their faces. I wanted to focus on the by-product of man and how humans leave their legacy not just in their descendants, but in their belongings. Everything creates a history.

Sleep Deprived Noon by ~rebelsketcher is a wonderful print, very similar to Van Gogh's expressive painting of his room. (Suggested by ~lunarwolf and Featured by `alchemism)

Oh hey thanks!

The only part I really liked in this enitre print is the Uluru poster on the upper wall. Munch-feel right there.

The whole picture looks like it was knitted.
It does remind me of Van Goghs painting of his room.
Funny,
I just submitted a poem about him.
