In A New York State of Mind

Nostalgia Kick

A lot of people wonder what's wrong with me when I mention watching old tv shows. I like re-living the tv side of my childhood, what's wrong with that? Those memories were happier than the ones I had of being in school, that's for sure.

For the past few months I have been watching the following:

The Muppets Show Season 1 & 2

My Little Pony: The Movie

My Little Pony: Firefly's Adventure (Escape from Midnight Castle)

Wildfire

Fraggle Rock Seasons 1 - 4

Captain Power& The Soldiers of the Future [link]

M.A.S.K

The Gobots

The Mighty Orbots

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

She-Ra

Thundercats

Peanuts

Transformers: The Movie

Transformers G1 Seasons 1 - 4

Dungeons & Dragons

Photon [link]

The Jim Henson Hour: Dog City

Voltron

Doraemon

Rainbow Brite

Alf

Strawberry Shortcake

Dot and the Kangaroo (et al)

A Wish For Wings That Worked [link] - this film made me want to do animation..oh and HAIRBALL!!!!!!!

Most of the Don Bluth films - All Dogs Go To Heaven, Secret of N.I.M.H, Anastacia, Titan A.E, Rock-A-Doodle, Land Before Time, Dragon's Lair (ok the game), Thumbelina, Troll, An American Tail

and personally THE MOST coolest show in my life that basically made me as a person:

Star Fleet [link]

Wow, there's some show I forgot even existed!

I know what you mean Poh, I do the same thing - except with me it seems to be british comedies that I end up watching...

haha I wonder if I can find lady lovely locks somewhere - I loved that as a kid. I wonder if there was a reason for me loving it that extends further than the hair and the cute little creatures...

Dunno - could be more reasons to like it -

80's cartoons had the extremes of being the golden age of morning television but also had some pretty crap products (*coughJEMcough*). people would still remember them and get a thrill from seeing it.

I mean, I hated Care Bears for example but still get a kick out of seeing it sometimes.

A lot of shows can't do that these days though - no magical X factor.

Oh yeah British shows:

Mind Your Own Language
Benny Hill
Are You Being Served?

I learned to speak English watching those shows haha.

Why can't shows be like that these days?

I can't imagine people remembering Ben 10 twenty years from now ~

Oh man. I'm not watching them myself (our connection cuts out a lot so bittorrenting becomes a pain) but I've been searching Wikipedia for all the old shows I used to watch. Some of them were so lame, but it's so nice...let these people wonder, they don't know what they're missing!
Need breed of shows, new breed of kids.

My nephews Cam and Jeremy both enjoy the show, so perhaps they may reminisce later in life, perhaps not.

At the end of the day, we'll have a fair collection of all these classic programs sitting on our shelves to peruse at our leisure, and perhaps show to our kids one day so they can share in that same magic we loved.

Haha come to think of it I'm doing this kind of thing right now, now that Good News Week is back. I always watched that as a kid (had a crush on Paul McDermott to boot) hehe

I told my cousins to let their kids watch the original My Little Pony and Fraggle Rock etc (my cousins have them on VHS) and now they adore it.

They said it's better than the stuff on tv now. And they watch a lot of tv too.

Haha retro for the win!
